Farm Road is located near unincorporated Sandy Spring. This 2016 article in the National Council on Public History’s History@Work blog discusses Farm Road and the rural gentrification that is erasing it.
Farm Road Erased. The crossed-out houses are African American homesites depicted in a Montgomery County Planning Department map. Though the properties remain, they were “erased” by Montgomery County planners. Maps provide some of the best evidence for erasure and how government agencies like the Montgomery County Planning Department render communities of color invisible.
